Make Milk Tea at Home
There are plenty of coffee connoisseurs out there, but tea is the most consumed drink in the world, after water.
At Organic Valley it’s obvious we love milk and all the tasty ways you can use it. Milk tea is one of those ways.
We, along with our friends at The Root Note, thought we’d share a few delightful milk tea variations. For those of you looking for new drinks to try because you are taking a break from coffee as a New Year's resolution, putting away alcoholic beverages during Dry January or simply turning to tea for the first time, don’t worry, these are easy combinations to get you started.
If you want to go super simple, just pour some milk in your tea. Done! If you want to get a little more in depth, read on.
What is Milk Tea?
Milk tea is just that — a tea drink with the addition of milk. Milk tea can take numerous forms. Serve your tea hot, cold, iced, flavored or whatever you fancy. We suggest Earl Grey in the first recipe, but experiment with different teas to find your favorites.

How to Make an Easy Earl Grey Latte
Ingredients
2 tablespoons of Earl Grey tea
1 teaspoon of honey
1 cup of water
Milk
Directions
- Steep 2 tablespoons of Earl Grey tea and 1 teaspoon of honey in boiling water for 4 minutes.
- Let the tea mixture cool in the refrigerator for a few hours.
- Remove from the fridge and top off with Organic Valley Whole Milk. Heat the mixture on the stovetop while whisking, or carefully shake in a Mason jar.
- Pour the drink in your favorite go-to mug and enjoy.
The honey adds texture and taste, so feel free to use as liberally as you’d like.
“If it is a rainy day and you are having guests, an Earl Grey latte is an elevated experience,” said Jared Dennison, Root Note coffee manager, who fondly describes his job as “making milk hot for a living.”

Try a Matcha Latte
If you’d like a milk tea that brightens a room, try a matcha latte. The beautiful color is a great conversation starter, too. It can be heated or served as an iced latte.
Ingredients
1 teaspoon matcha green tea powder
2 tablespoons warm water
1 teaspoon of honey
1 cup of milk
Directions
- Sift 1 teaspoon of matcha to break up the clumps.
- Mix matcha with 2 tablespoons of warm water. Whisk with a chasen (bamboo whisk) until the matcha powder is fully integrated and there are no lumps. A small kitchen whisk will work but will not give you quite the same results.
- Mix in 1 teaspoon of honey.
- Fill a 1-cup mug with warmed whole milk and stir lightly.
- Pour into a saucepan and heat until warm. Transfer to a mug and enjoy. Serve the milk and mixture over ice for an iced matcha latte if you prefer.

Add Coffee Creamer to Tea
Creamers also make a delicious combination when added to tea. Add it to hot tea and it’s also delicious in cold iced tea. Add a splash of lactose-free Organic Valley Sweet Cream Creamer to your iced tea for a cold and creamy refreshing summer drink.
There are countless milk-and-tea combinations, and cold and warm tea are so versatile. We hope these help you draw inspiration and you find the combination that works for you.
